Social Networks, Community Manager, the best way to use them

Meaningless content, unexciting, vulgar and with hardly any informative value… just like bait for the fish, for the fans who are fanatically hungry to take anything.

Merchandising is already there for this purpose, it is better to spend some money for a product with the logo printed/engraved/embroidered on it, than waste your free –or not so free- time dealing with meaningless content. This way at least you will get something in return.

You, as a business person, probably never imagined the possibility to have to hire a person exclusively to attend the “fans”. From a positive perspective, it is not a bad idea to have a person to create interesting contents for your clients, attend their doubts, their thoughts and also their complaints, but apparently now the trend is to have a person to continuously fill the web with irrelevant stuff, as if it were the tabloids, to make hundreds of selfies and to take pictures of literally every possible thing, becoming utterly boring.

Do you think your company really needs to invest on this field? It may be interesting to jump onto the new trends, or at least be aware of them if they provide some true added value. Do you think that hiring a person to spend time creating gossip and taking hundreds of selfies is added value for your clients? Do you think it is added value that increases the prestige of your company? Certainly, prestige is something else and it is achieved in other ways.

Generate interesting contents, educational, promotional, technical documents, tutorials… Forget wasting your time with gossip, thousands of selfies and junk contents, rehashing irrelevant information created by others, and more importantly, don’t be tempted to claim authorship of contents which were not created by you. Behave, stop wasting your time and your followers time.

Every communication tool has its advantages and disadvantages, and not all the companies need to have all of them. Use the tools you think will serve a purpose for you, not just for the sake of it. This will improve the experience of your clients/followers, as you will offer them something worth seeing. The idea that "if your business is not in the social media, it doesn’t exist" was created by companies with great interest in becoming "indispensable" (tech companies who want you to need their services) and who try to manipulate those who have not yet jumped on the bandwagon, day in and day out.
