Marketing for the sake of lying
One of the biggest mistakes in Marketing, if
not the biggest, is to use it in order to lie. It is known
that through Marketing, publicity and other actions, many
things can be achieved, even immense profits, but is this an
honest way to act?
In this day and age we live surrounded by false advertising
for every kind of product. Incredible publicity campaigns
claim unimaginable features of the products. Do you think that
achieving objectives at any cost is a good idea? The answer is
plain and simple: NO.
It is definitely not a good idea, because it is not how we
should act. It is not ethical, sincere or honest. Then why is
it so commonly used by companies to promote the supposed
features of their products? Why is it so irresistible to use
marketing to lie?
Think for a moment of your clients, put yourself in their
place. How would you feel if you have been deceived by the
company that sells the products you wished for, attracted by
all the promises in their publicity campaigns? Don't you feel
even betrayed by the brand you were longing for? Doesn't it
feel like a low blow to the activity you are so fond of? It is
normal, because these attitudes hurt, and sometimes so much
that you might lose those clients forever. If they have been
so strongly disappointed, there is nothing the company can do
to fix it. And a client who feels deceived by false
advertising might not just be a disappointed client, but he or
she might act against your company. Do you still think it is
worth to use marketing in this way? If you are not sure about
your answer, please reconsider it again.
